From Leather Designer to LinkedIn: How Nancy Gupta Grew a Client’s Profile to 67,000
She was trained to design leather bags in college, but now, Nancy Gupta designs content that gets noticed.
Nancy, what magic have you done on my LinkedIn?
Nancy Gupta recalls her client’s words, clearly bewildered and shocked at what had happened. The content that was posted on LinkedIn had just gone viral overnight, with over 100,000 impressions. It became so popular that it even appeared on Pinterest and Instagram, even though they didn’t have an account. “Everyone else was copying the post or just changing the colors, but we knew it was exactly that post, a simple infographic about AI,” Nancy shares. Her work is proof that a LinkedIn post, done right, can cross to other platforms.
At the age of 22, Nancy has achieved milestones that even surprised her clients. When asked what her secret was, she replies, “I was not that great when I started. I learned while doing the process.” One of the clients she handles used to get only 100 to 150 impressions on a post. “He was consistently posting online for two months and only got 3 to 5 likes at a time. When I started guiding him, we published just two posts on two consecutive days, and both crossed 1,000 impressions.”
That’s not a miracle; it’s a well-planned strategy that Nancy had worked hard for months until she knew LinkedIn like the back of her hand. “LinkedIn is the easiest platform to grow. Unlike in other platforms like Instagram and YouTube, you need tons of effort to make videos for content. But for LinkedIn, you just need a picture and text to post,” she explains. “You don’t have to spend hours in front of the camera before posting.”
Another advantage that Nancy had long understood was the intention built behind LinkedIn. “People who are on this platform already come from a skill-building mindset. They are not coming here for entertainment; they’re either here to learn, look for opportunities or ready to spend to scale their businesses.” She also believes that constant engagement and community building are also important factors to creating a strong profile.
The Version of Nancy Nobody Expected
Nancy today is nothing like her younger self. Nobody expected that this LinkedIn content strategist had once wanted to become a fashion designer years ago.
Hailing from Delhi, India, she ranked in the top 300 all over the country. She qualified to study at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), one of India’s top colleges. “I am a designer by background and I used to make bags, jackets and stuff like that,” Nancy reveals. But after she graduated, she lost interest in her craft. The declining demand in the leather industry was also apparent; it was at that point she had to make a decision on what to do next.
“I went into graphic designing because I found it more interesting. I used to make graphics for a lot of brands when I worked as an intern, so I started with that,” she explains. One opportunity after another, it eventually led her to content creation when she worked for a startup whose founder also happens to be one of Google’s directors.

Initially, Nancy handled the UI & graphics design of the website. After months of working with him, she was asked to manage his LinkedIn profile. “Honestly, I didn’t know how LinkedIn worked back then because I was mostly on Instagram,” she says. “I just thought maybe I can explore and learn while doing it, so I accepted that role.”
Nancy took it as a challenge and did not falter. In 12 months, she grew his profile from 5,000 to 67,000+ followers. She had no playbook. She learned the platform by running his account: studying how tech and AI copy actually landed, adjusting post by post based on what the numbers told her. It helped that he brought strong credentials to begin with: a Stanford graduate and now one of Google’s directors, credentials that gave his posts a head start. “He keeps on getting clients and sales on his website through LinkedIn. He also gets speaking gigs and many opportunities just by posting on his profile,” she says.
The results that happened to Nancy’s clients made her challenge herself. “If I can grow his profile with those numbers, surely I can do it for myself,” she says. When she started, Nancy had only around 1,200 followers. But after three months of building her personal brand, she has surpassed 8,000+ followers.
She likes to track the metrics regularly because she finds it fun to see that the post did well. If it’s not working as it should, she figures out what went wrong. “We must also know how we can make things right,” she suggests. “I usually ask myself, ‘What have I done wrong? Is the hook bad? Is the idea behind the post bad? Is the visual bad?’ Then I will just try to improve it in the next post.”
What She’d Tell Her Younger Self
If the younger Nancy heard about what her future self is capable of, she would find it hard to believe. But her tenacity and attention to detail, whether designing bags or strategizing posts, had become her biggest advantage. It brought her to where she is now, working with founders on their LinkedIn content strategy. Some would call her an expert. She politely disagrees. “I want people to relate to me and see me as their friend who’s really good at what they do, but never sound like an expert. Just that friend you trust and like to listen to all day.”
Looking back at all her achievements, Nancy remains grounded and constantly seeks to improve her skills over time. She sees it as a fun thing to do, figuring out what works and what needs fixing.

Today, she runs her own agency, The Copy Couch, helping founders and businesses grow their presence on LinkedIn and turn it into real clients.
“I feel really young to give advice,” she laughs after I ask her to share her message to those who wish to follow in her footsteps. But after some deep thought, she discloses her top three pieces of advice below:
Explore and learn as much as you can.
“What you decide right now may not be something that you will be doing for the rest of your life.” Coming from a background in the fashion industry and transitioning into LinkedIn content strategy, Nancy relates to her own experience. “When I was young, I fell in love with the fashion industry and adored all the glamour I saw on TV. But I outgrew that love and didn’t want to do fashion anymore,” she discloses. It may take some time to find the things that you really want to do, and that is okay.
Be whimsical.
Nancy has a knack of seeing things in a fun way rather than taking it as work that could end up being stressful instead. “I never see anything as work. So whatever I do, I try to play with it, experiment with it as much as I can. I like to be whimsical and make my content very fun to read.”
Your first 30 posts would probably suck, but just keep posting.
“I would tell my younger self to post consistently. Don’t wait to have a polished version of your content.” Nancy admits she was bad at creating content when she started. “I still cringe rereading them whenever I see those posts. It was too bad,” she chuckles. “Religiously click that ‘Post’ button and just be out there. Being public on any platform leads you to many opportunities.”
Nancy took several turns before finding her ground: a designer, a graphic artist, now a LinkedIn content strategist. When she did, she added a sprinkle of fun (and some AI) to make things more enjoyable and relatable. “It’s interesting to see how things turned out. I never saw this coming, but I am definitely enjoying what I’m doing now,” she beams.
