2024 Cebu Safari Guide: An Experience of a Lifetime
We’re lucky to live in a time where we don’t have to travel far to see the exotic animals usually seen on TV (cue Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams MV). While many of us dream of visiting the African Savannah, the chances of turning that dream into a reality often feels out of reach.
Fortunately, we can count on the famous Cebu Safari & Adventure Park to bring that unique experience and wonders of wildlife closer to us. Located in the scenic hills of Carmen, Cebu, this incredible destination offers Filipinos and tourists alike the chance to appreciate diverse wildlife and learn about their habitats—without the need for an international trip. With over 170 hectares of attractions, this park blends adventure, education and a deeper connection to nature.
Our experience at this amazing adventure park is one for the books. I’d definitely return for another round of adventure soon. If you’re planning to visit Cebu Safari & Adventure Park anytime soon, here are some essential things to know and what to prepare so you can make the most out of your safari:
1. Park Schedule and Tickets
The adventure park is open from Mondays to Sundays, including holidays, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Ticket Rates are P1,000 per person on weekdays and P1,200 on weekends and holidays. You can check their schedule and book your tickets via their website here. Prices are subject to change, so it’s best to check the official website before your visit.
Tickets for children and senior citizens can only be purchased on-site. Child rates are based on height, while senior citizen discounts are only honored at the Park ticket counters.
Here are the Regular Park Ticket Inclusions:
- One-day admission to the Park
- Access to all animal viewing areas
- Expanded African Savanna Tour
- Bird Show
- Newly-expanded Michel’s Garden
- White Lion Safari Tour
- Safari Tram ride (non-exclusive)
Pro Tip: If you live in Cebu City or know someone who does, watch out for travel fairs at local malls and establishments. Last April, my cousin stumbled upon an international travel fair at Ayala Center Cebu and nabbed amazing deals, including discounted tickets for Cebu Safari & Adventure Park.
2. How to Get There
Located in Brgy. Corte, Carmen, Cebu, it takes about 1.5 to 2 hours of drive from Cebu City to reach the park. Since we visited on a Saturday, more visitors were expected. We left early in the morning at 6:30 AM from Talisay City and arrived at around 8:45 AM.
Here are some options for getting there:
- Private Car: If you have a private vehicle or are renting a car, you can drive to the park using navigation apps like Google Maps or Waze. From Cebu City, take the northern route towards Carmen, Cebu. The park is well-signposted once you reach the municipality.
- Taxi or Ride-Hailing Services: You can book a taxi or use ride-hailing apps like Grab to take you directly to the park. However, this option can be more expensive compared to other alternatives.
- Public Transportation:
a. Bus: From Cebu City, go to the North Bus Terminal and take a bus heading to Carmen. Inform the conductor that you’ll be getting off at Cebu Safari & Adventure Park. The bus ride takes around 3 hours.
b. Habal-habal (Motorcycle Taxi): Once you reach Carmen, you can take a habal-habal to the park entrance. Negotiate the fare with the driver before starting your journey. The rate starts at P150 per passenger.
- Organized Tours: Many travel agencies and tour operators in Cebu offer day trips to Cebu Safari & Adventure Park. These tours usually include round-trip transportation and a driver. Joining a tour can be a convenient option, especially if you’re not familiar with the area.
Pro Tip: It’s best to plan an entire day at the park to make the most of your visit. Arrive early—preferably by 8:00 AM—to avoid crowds and enjoy the cooler morning weather.
3. What to Wear and Bring
The park spans 170 hectares of diverse terrain deep in the mountains of Carmen, Cebu. (That’s huge!) Fortunately, trams are available to transport you from point A to point B – just wait at the tram stations for the next one to arrive. It’s best to dress comfortably in light clothing and wear appropriate footwear, as the tour requires extensive walking and navigating different terrains. Be sure to check the weather forecast ahead of time.
Parents can bring strollers for babies and toddlers, and senior citizens can bring wheelchairs. However, some parts of the park are sloped and can only be accessed by stairs. Most of the time, walking is required to reach different areas of the safari.
Essentials to bring:
- Extra shirt or towel
- Hats or umbrellas for the rainy season
- Hand fan or portable mini-fans
- Sunscreen
- Refillable water bottles (tumblers)
Pro Tip: Outside food and drinks are not allowed, but there are plenty of restaurants and snack bars inside.
4. Animal Exhibits and Shows
The park offers various exciting animal encounters and shows throughout the day. Some highlights include:
- Interactive Bird Show featuring exotic species – An impressive showcase of avian intelligence and beauty.
- Bengal Tiger feeding demonstrations
- Giraffe feeding experience – Hand-feed Bengal tigers or Reticulated Giraffes (a highlight of my visit).
- White Lion Safari Tour – Get up close with majestic white lions.
- African Savannah exploration – A safari tram tour through a vast open space filled with zebras, antelopes and more.
During our visit, we had the incredible opportunity to feed the Reticulated Giraffes. Standing face-to-face with these gentle giants was truly unforgettable!
Pro Tip: Check show schedules upon arrival to plan your day.
5. Adventure Activities and Accommodations
For thrill-seekers, Cebu Safari delivers adrenaline-packed experiences, including:
- Zip Line
- Sky Bike
- Aerial Walk
- ATV Rides
- Obstacle Courses
For a more immersive stay, consider booking accommodations like cabins, campsites or glamping tents.
Pro Tip: Staying overnight allows you to experience the park at a more relaxed pace and catch activities you might miss on a day trip.
6. Food and Restaurants
With the park spanning hectares upon hectares, you’re bound to work up an appetite during your adventure. Fortunately, several restaurants and snack bars are strategically located throughout the park. My personal favorite is The Outpost, which serves delicious western cuisine with a breathtaking view of the meerkats, giraffes and aquatic birds.
Pro Tip: While outside food isn’t allowed, each restaurant offers something unique, making it worth trying different spots throughout your visit.
Cebu Safari offers an experience like no other. My recent visit was truly an interesting moment and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking adventure, education and unforgettable encounters with wildlife. Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, adventure seeker or family looking for a unique experience, this park has something for everyone.
Remember to book your tickets in advance and arrive early to make the most of your safari adventure!
